Two schemes in Cumbria which harness natural energy have been given a cash boost of £10,000 each. The windfall, from the Lake District Sustainable Development Fund, means historic Eskdale Mill can be returned to its former water-powered glory. Once restored, the Grade II listed building will then be able to open to the public. Panels will also be installed at Brampton's village hall, allowing it to be run on solar energy. Clive Wickham, from the Lake District Sustainable Development Fund, said both schemes demonstrated its commitment to climate change initiatives. He said: "Bampton is a great example of solar technology, which will not only vastly improve the hall but will reduce CO2 emissions, help raise awareness and boost the renewable energy skills of local tradespeople. "Eskdale is exciting too and the installation of a micro hydro unit will provide all the power this Grade II listed building needs, as well as being on show for visitors."
